Kitchens with a focus on the sink, stove and refrigerator have been the norm for many decades. Cabinets in the kitchen were used for storage, but decorative elements such as color and trim were also taken into account. Small kitchens in decades past may also have included a small breakfast nook for quick family meals. The room was typically closed off from other rooms mostly due to a lack of kitchen ventilation suitable for use with cooking appliances.
Not all bathrooms have large spaces that can accommodate wedding tables or bulky chests. Sheet music cabinets come in handy in such situations. These compact pieces of furniture are great assets in small bath or powder rooms. They function well without sinks, or as single sink vanity. The shelving can either be retained for storage needs, or be removed to accommodate plumbing work.
Sizes are generally restricted to a range of standard industry sizes beginning at nine inches and increasing by three inch intervals up to the maximum forty eight inches. So, if your dimensions fall outside of the three inch increments there will be gaps. Filler strips are used to close these gaps usually between the cabinet and an appliance or wall. The more fillers needed, the more wasted space you will have. Semi custom cabinetry also follows the industry size format and uses fillers or trim to close gaps.
